Axon Partners Group, a leading venture capital firm, is set to launch a new fund called Axon Innovation Growth II, building on the success of its predecessor launched in 2021. The firm aims to raise up to €250 million for this new vehicle, with a target of €200 million and a hard cap of €250 million.

Fundraising strategy

The Corporación Bética de Expansión Empresarial fund aims to be a benchmark in Andalusia, due to the impact it will have on employment, industrial development and innovation, accelerating the strengthening of the economy, through diversification, solid financial instruments and Axon’s specialisation and track record.

They are looking for growing companies, with a high innovation component and a strong commercial validation in the market. From CBEE they can enter the capital of the company taking minority positions, with tickets between €500,000 and €2 million per round and up to €3.75 million per company.

Currently, they are actively investing in technology scale-ups in Europe, with a preference for growth stages. They continue to scout other geographies where we have invested in the past such as India and Latam.

The fundraising process will occur in two stages:

1. By the end of 2024: Axon expects to secure €100-120 million from existing investors, primarily Spanish backers.

2. Second quarter of 2025: The firm will target foreign investors, employing an external agent to expand into new markets.

Investment strategy

Axon Innovation Growth II will replicate its predecessor's strategy by:

• Targeting tech SMEs with profitable market propositions

• Taking minority positions in companies needing financial partners for growth

• Investing €5-20 million per company

• Building a portfolio of 10-15 companies

• Prioritizing investments in Spain and Italy, while exploring other European markets
