Overview
The “home for creative bioscience entrepreneurs” firm has launched a new fund, backed by Tony Fadell and Chris Sacca, among others. The objective of this fund is to keep on supporting innovation in this field.
Breakout Ventures team puts the focus on bioscience, for they believe this is key to the future. They consider a new era of creative bioscience has arrived to change the traditional ways and make progress in this field, so they want to support and invest in those early-stage companies seeking to bring bio-solutions to sustain our planet and improve human health. Their last fund amounts to $112.5 million.
Today’s science is combining different fields such as biology, chemistry and technology to increase the possibilities, so Breakout Ventures foresees the new tools that may replace the old ones, such as cells, and invest in those companies that share their vision.
Type of companies they invest in:
Breakout Ventures invests in what the firm calls “creative biosciences startups”, normally at early stages with seed and Series A rounds.
The managing partners of Breakout Ventures are Lindy Fishburne and Julia Moore, two women with great insights into startups that combine biology and technology. Both were part of the Thiel Foundation, which provides grants for deep science startups.
With regards to the application process, bioscience entrepreneurs should contact them through their webpage and Breakout Ventures team will let them know about the process to follow.
Portfolio: Modern Meadow, Cytovale, Checkerspot, Cortexyme, Phylagen, and Parthenon Therapeutics (one of this new fund’s investees).
