Overview

With the support of the European Union from the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme, the Stronger Roots consortium is announcing this Call for proposals aimed to support the primarily online crowdfunding campaigns as one of the tools to build strong communities of supporters. We will support the selected applicants with a financial grant to match their total sum gained at a crowdfunding campaign, if at least 90% of the target amount has been reached. We will also provide a capacity building program to selected applicants related to crowdfunding, which will help them to plan and implement their crowdfunding campaigns. It is targeted at civil society organizations from Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia who comply with and protect, promote or raise awareness of the EU’s values and principles of fundamental rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

The objective and expected results are that grantees will be fully responsible for organizing their own crowdfunding campaign from the beginning till the end. That means they will have to come up with an idea on the crowdfunding focus, choose a crowdfunding platform or method, set their financial goal and a specific time frame. Then they will have to prepare an effective campaign plan, launch the campaign, approach their supporters and communicate with donors. The organization needs to be prepared to use its own funds to finance the whole crowdfunding campaign. After successful campaign implementation, part of the matching grant (up to 15%) may be spent on the campaign itself.

Submission: The applicants are expected to submit an application in which they describe an initial plan of the campaign, prove that their organization is eligible and complies with the EU’s rights and values. After submission of the application, the proposed projects are evaluated gradually based on three types of criteria:

  1. Administrative criteria – submission of a fully completed application form by the deadline;
  2. Eligibility criteria - please see above in Eligible types of organizations
  3. Evaluation criteria – expert evaluation of project applications, the funding threshold is set at 60 points.

Evaluation: The applications first undergo an administrative and eligibility review to see if they fulfill the eligibility criteria. Afterwards, the applications are evaluated and scored with points by evaluators or Selection Committee members and the ranked list is discussed at the Selection Committee meeting which results in a list of projects recommended for support. The list is approved by the Board of Trustees of the given Stronger Roots consortium member.
