Zinc

Each of Zinc’s programmes provides unique opportunities for R&D. They are committed to building a new commercial innovation system for the social sciences, to increase the impact of existing research and to generate new R&D opportunities through their ventures. Zinc’s main financial backer is the London School of Economics. Zinc is also a member of the ASPECT consortium which is focused on accelerating the impact of social science.

Zinc aims for a final close of £33 million ($41 million) to invest in startups that build commercial solutions to some of society’s biggest challenges. Zinc will invest up to £250,000 in each of the companies created, that breaks down as: £12,000 stipend across the first 6 months; £75,000 for businesses that advance to our accelerator phase; and ~£150,000 follow on investment at seed round.

Zinc 2 Fund will back talent that is pre-team and pre-idea to build these startups. It will focus on four missions: mental health, the environment, improving the quality of later life and helping people impacted by automation and globalization. Zinc and the entrepreneurs believe that each of these missions is a big opportunity for both social impact and commercial success.
