Overview

Technology Crossover Ventures is a private equity firm that invests in growth-stage private and public companies in the technology industry. The main characteristic of the firm is that it supports founders through their companies’ whole growth lyfecycle. That is, the firm partners with leading technology companies from early stages through IPO and beyond.

Its portfolio spreads across both B2B and B2C tech markets and the sectors in which TVC operates include: fintech, education, prop-tech media/entertainment, e-commerce, healthcare, vertical SaaS, and DevOps security.

TCV usually issues tickets with a value that ranges from $10M to $400M+.

On January 31, 2022, the firm announced the launch of its new fund: Velocity. This $460 million fund is aimed at expansion-stage investment opportunities, that is, tech companies at later stages of development. And it is “specifically designed to help founders of innovative companies as they shift from product-market fit to scaling up”.

Velocity will complement TVC’s parallel investment activity, partnering with TVC’s Growth funds (other funds of the firm). TVC’s objective is to offer a concentrated portfolio of companies access to the full TVC platform across investments of Series A, B, C, and beyond.

These are some of the high-growth sectors —already proven success themes for TCV— in which Velocity fund will focus its investments:

  • E-commerce enablement
  • Tech disruption across health & wellness
  • Democratization of financial services
  • Acceleration of AI/ML adoption
  • Supply chain digitization and optimization

Velocity has already supported BenchSci and Passport companies.

And these are some of the TVC’s portfolio companies: Linkedin, Netflix, Airbnb, ByteDance, and Aviatrix.
