They are the interface between Telefónica and the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Wayra is present in 7 hubs with activity in 9 countries in Europe and Latin America, with a clear objective: to help startups grow on a global scale.

In Spain, Wayra is present in the two most relevant innovation hubs in the country: Barcelona and Madrid.

Over the last eight years, Telefónica's open innovation area has invested more than €160M in startups around the world.

More than 500 startups that have participated in the open innovation program are still active and more than 100 are already doing business with the company.

Wayra is looking for companies that want to change the telecommunications industry. They are looking for champions, leaders in their sector, in the areas of IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data, Cybersecurity, Video and AR/VR, blockchain, edge, 5g and, in general, any solution that could be interesting for the future of a telco or its customers. They invest in companies that want to work with Telefónica. They like to co-invest with other funds to ensure that the company has enough cash to overcome its challenges.

Wayra has raised a total of £8M in a single venture fund, Wayra Fair By Design Fund. This fund was announced on Jun 28, 2017 and raised a total of £8M.
